What the Parish Council does
About the Parish Council
The Parish Council is the first tier of local government after the District Council and County Council. It is responsible for representing the interests of the local community. It is funded mainly by the precept, which is a small percentage of the Council Tax. Parish Councillors are unpaid. Councillors are elected every four years and the last election was in May 2007. Any vacancies that arise in  the meantime are filled either through a by-election or by co-option.
The Turners Hill Parish Council was formed in 1986 and consists of eight Councillors. The Council employs a part-time Clerk and part-time steward.
The Parish Clerk is responsible for the day to day running of the Parish Council. The Clerk’s duties are wide ranging and include taking minutes of the main council meetings, researching and advising the members on legal procedures as pertains to Parish Councils, and liaising with various agencies and the public. The Clerk is also the Responsible Financial Officer and prepares the accounts, payroll and budget.

Village Design Statement

The Village Design statement will give a detailed
description of the existing character of the village in order to provide
guidelines for any further development to ensure that it is in keeping
with the village.
The statement will identify the characteristics of the village that are
valued by local people and highlight the particular features we would
like to conserve and protect.
A monthly planning meeting is held on the third Tuesday of the month at 7.30pm at the Ark.
The final document when completed will be available to all residents.

New Allotments

Due to an increased demand for allotments and a long waiting list. the
village allotment area next to Lion Lane has been doubled and 12 new
 allotments have been created.

Green Issues - LIVE Project and Village Bag

A reusable Village Bag was distributed to all village residents.

We are keen to promote environmentally friendly policies and have applied for a grant to fit solar panels to the Ark community centre.
